InBody body composition testing
A fast, precise body-fat test that breaks your weight down into muscle, fat, and water — segment by segment — so you can track what's actually changing, not just what the scales say.
Testing led by Jack Braniff — MSc Sport & Exercise Nutrition, SENr & CISSN registered, UKAD anti-doping advisor and author of Fuelling The Functional Athlete.
Why test
The scales can't tell muscle from fat. This can.
Weight is a single number hiding several different stories. Lose three kilos and the scales can't tell you whether it was fat, muscle or water. Build strength for months and the scales might not move at all, even as your body transforms. The InBody scan solves that by measuring what your weight is actually made of.
In about fifteen seconds it breaks your body down into skeletal muscle mass, fat mass and percentage, and total body water — then maps muscle and fat across each limb and your trunk so you can see imbalances. It's a genuine body-fat test, repeatable enough to track real change over weeks and months.
Whether your goal is fat loss, building muscle, or improving your power-to-weight ratio, the InBody gives you an honest baseline and a clear way to measure progress.
Every scan includes
Skeletal muscle mass · body fat mass & percentage · segmental muscle and fat analysis (both arms, both legs, trunk) · total body water · visceral fat level · basal metabolic rate estimate — all on a printed report you take home to compare against next time.
How it works
Fifteen seconds, standing still
Quick prep
Shoes and socks off, a moment to settle. We'll give you simple guidance to keep every scan comparable to the last.
Stand on the InBody
You hold the hand electrodes and stand on the foot plates. A tiny, painless electrical current passes through your body to measure its composition.
Scan
In around 15 seconds the device measures muscle, fat and water across each body segment.
Read the report
We print your full results and run through what they mean — your muscle and fat split, any left–right or upper–lower imbalances, and where you're starting from.
Track over time
Rescan every few weeks or months and lay the reports side by side to see exactly how your body is responding to training and nutrition.
Who it's for
Anyone who wants the real picture
Progress the scales hide
Losing fat while keeping muscle is the goal — the InBody proves it's happening even on weeks the scales stall.
Watch muscle build
Track skeletal muscle mass climbing and spot left–right imbalances worth addressing in the gym.
Power to weight, honestly
Watts per kilo and pace per kilo both depend on body composition. Measure the kilo side properly and track it through a season.
Common questions
What does the InBody scan measure?
It breaks your body weight down into skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass and percentage, total body water, and a segmental analysis showing muscle and fat distribution across each arm, each leg and your trunk. You also get a basal metabolic rate estimate and visceral fat level.
How long does it take?
The scan itself takes around 15 seconds. Allow about 15 minutes for the full visit including the reading and a quick run-through of your results.
How do I prepare for an accurate scan?
For consistency, ideally test in a similar state each time: well hydrated but not immediately after a large meal or hard workout, and avoid alcohol the day before. We'll give you the same guidance each visit so your trend is reliable.
Is it better than BMI or scales?
Yes — scales and BMI can't tell muscle from fat. Two people at the same weight can have completely different body composition. InBody shows you the split, so if you're gaining muscle while losing fat, you'll see progress the scales would hide.
Can I add it to another test?
Absolutely. Many clients add an InBody scan to a VO2 max, lactate or RMR session, and it's included in our combined metabolic packages. It's the ideal way to track the body changes behind your performance and nutrition work.
